Zen-Tastic!

Okay, let me say for the record, I do not hate Apple. Or Apple computers. Or Apple Inc. I guess now it is. Not at all.
I am not a Macaholic either. In fact you won’t find me standing on either side of the debate on which is the better computer, screaming technical obscenities at the other. I understand that both have their high points and their low points. I just happen to have a PC, and that’s cool. If I had more money I’d probably have a Mac too. But that’s beside the point.
I don’t dig ipods. When it came to buying an MP3 player, which I had been fervently shopping for over the past year or so, I never even consider an ipod. Why? Well, honestly, I don’t want what everyone else has, and I don’t want it just because it has a lower case i in front of it. When your grandma is whipping out her ipod to listen to Glen Miller, something has gone amiss. So after careful consideration and research, I chose the next best thing. Or rather, the equally best thing.
The Zen Vision: M by Creative. And I love it. It’s more sturdy than the ipod, it has a much nicer screen than the ipod Video for video playback(which I love), and, most importantly, it’s not an ipod. So when I whip it out at work, or on the go, and people say “Oh, you have an ipod?” I say, “Oh no my friend. I have something BETTER. I have a Zen!” And then they oooh and aaaahh, and then walk away because they have more important things to do.
So my Zen, which I’ve only had for a couple of months now, was my constant companion until I accidentally fried the docking interface by trying to stick it onto one of the many ipod docking stereos at my local Target. Apparently that’s a bad idea. So now I am waiting patiently for Creative to return my wonderful media powerhouse, or at least a replacement, back to me. Which should be today. Hopefully. It’s only been 10 days so I really can’t complain too much. But I will, and I have, every day it’s been gone because I’ve been going through withdrawal of being able to listen to music every waking moment of every day, which is how God intended life to be.
Which is why she created the Zen.

Hey Joe,
I was thinking about getting the same player myself. Can you tell me how the video works? Specifically, how you download movies. Also, can you download and play the same videos that iPod offers on its site? Thanks for your time.

The Zen Vision: M totally rocks man. If you’re looking for a great player that is NOT an ipod, then I would go with the M. It’s now available in the 60GB size which I wish I had! As far as movies go, it’s very easy to transfer movies, and I think you can reformat the movies from iMusic with the software that comes with it. Most of my movies come from either DVD’s I rip or, ahem, other internet sources
I’ll put up a post with some good links on converting movies for the Zen. I heartily recommend one though! Thanks for reading!
